JOIN RISE UP TO CELEBRATE AMAZING LEADERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Rise Up warmly invites you to our third annual breakfast to celebrate Rise Up’s global successes. Our program this year will feature three inspiring speakers. Renowned author-photographer Paola Gianturco will share the stories behind her powerful photography of girl leaders in Malawi and Uganda, who are transforming their own lives and communities. Paola will be joined by Rise Up leaders Christopher Cox and Achie Gebre who will share their work to improve the health of marginalized young people in the US South, and to increase girls’ access to education in Ethiopia.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

Paola Gianturco
Author-photographer Paola Gianturco has documented women’s issues in 62 countries, and in her inspiring new book, Wonder Girls: Changing Our World, she features the powerful stories and images of girl activists across thirteen countries who are transforming our world. Paola’s images have been exhibited at the United Nations, UNESCO, The Field Museum in Chicago, and many more. She lectures internationally, presented a TED talk in Dubai, and has been a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, and NPR, among others. In 2013, she was named one of “40 women to watch over 40.” Paola is a member of Rise Up’s Advisory board.
Christopher Cox  
Christopher is a powerful advocate for marginalized youth in the US South, working with Mississippi First and Teen Health Mississippi to increase access to youth-friendly sexual and reproductive healthcare services. He is also the coordinator for the Mississippi Youth Council, a group of 10 passionate youth activists that support and promote high-quality comprehensive sex education for all young people. Christopher is a graduate of Rise Up’s Youth Champions Initiative, and earned a bachelor’s in Political Science and a master’s in Public Health from Jackson State University.
 
Achie Gebre 
Achie is an inspiring girl leader from Ethiopia, dedicated to advancing the education, health, and rights of girls and women. She began her work as a volunteer for the Young Women’s Christian Association of Ethiopia, where she helped empower children to attend school. A graduate of Rise Up’s Let Girls Lead Initiative, Achie joined Rise Up’s 2015 delegation to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women where she advocated for girls’ inclusion in the Sustainable Development Goals. Achie is a frequent speaker at global conferences and is currently in her second year at Princeton University.
Denise Dunning 
Dr. Denise Raquel Dunning is a passionate advocate for girls, youth, and women. She is the founder and executive director of Rise Up, which has directly benefited 7 million girls, youth, and women, and advocated for over 100 laws and policies impacting 115 million people globally. Denise is a Fulbright Scholar who received a Bachelor’s degree from Duke University, Master’s degree from Princeton University, and her Doctorate from UC Berkeley. Denise’s work has been published widely, and she is currently writing a book about girls’ and women’s leadership globally.
