In Kenya, school-related gender-based violence can disrupt girls’ education and push students out of the classroom, while gaps in reporting systems, educator training, and survivor support can leave violence unaddressed. With training, funding, and ongoing support from Rise Up Together, Agnes Nzisa brought together educators, civil society organizations, government leaders, and community advocates to strengthen protections for students. Her advocacy helped drive the development and adoption of Nairobi County’s School-Related Gender-Based Violence Policy, strengthening reporting systems, educator training, and coordinated responses to violence in schools. The initiative has reached more than 1.29 million learners and teachers, and Agnes is building on this progress to strengthen support for survivors and expand safer-school advocacy into additional counties.
